9. Bewegen en chronisch hartfalen

Samenvatting

Hartfalen is niet te genezen. Hoe lang iemand met hartfalen in leven blijft, hangt mede af van zijn lichamelijke conditie. Hartfalenpatiënten met een goede conditie leven gemiddeld langer dan hartfalenpatiënten met een slechte conditie. Daarom is training om de lichamelijke conditie te verbeteren een belangrijk onderdeel van de behandeling van hartfalen. Het is nog niet duidelijk welke vorm van training het meeste effect heeft, maar de fysieke doelen kunnen het best worden bereikt door aerobe (interval)training, eventueel aangevuld met krachttraining van perifere spiergroepen en/of inspiratoire ademhalingsmusculatuur. Dit hoofdstuk geeft een overzicht van deze trainingsmethodieken en de onderliggende mechanismen.
