Behandeling van overgewicht bij kinderen met ‘VETCOOL®’

Abstract

De behandeling van overgewicht en obesitas gebeurt bij voorkeur multidisciplinair. Diverse studies hebben laten zien dat het focussen op alleen dieet, beweging of gedrag minder effectief is dan een multidisciplinaire aanpak. Vanaf 2005 is in het Amphia ziekenhuis in Breda de behandeling ‘VETCOOL®’ gestart, die bestaat uit een 1-jarig behandeltraject voor kinderen tussen de zeven en twaalf jaar met obesitas door een diëtist, psycholoog, bewegingswetenschapper, fysiotherapeut en kinderarts/physician assistant. In Nederland zijn overigens meerdere voorbeelden van soortgelijke behandelvormen. In de volgende bijdrage wordt uitgelegd waaruit onze behandeling bestaat, wat wij gaandeweg hebben geleerd, welke punten extra aandacht verdienen en wat het effect is.
