Behandeling van darmschade door beïnvloeding van intestinale genexpressie

Samenvatting

Kennis over de moleculaire regulatie van orgaanvorming, programmering van vernieuwing van het darmepitheel en van epitheeldifferentiatie biedt de mogelijkheid voor nieuwe behandelingsstrategieën om verscheidene ziekten die de tractus digestivus bedreigen, te voorkomen of te behandelen. Het moleculaire mechanisme dat ten grondslag ligt aan de regulatie van vernieuwing van het darmepitheel en van epitheeldifferentiatie is recent onderzocht met als doel de absorptieve functie van de darm te verbeteren. Het is gebleken dat de transcriptiefactor Cdx2 een belangrijke schakel is in dit proces. Daarnaast is duidelijk geworden dat de functie van deze transcriptiefactor farmacologisch beïnvloed kan worden, waarbij de regulatie van vernieuwing van het darmepitheel en het aansturen van het proces van epitheeldifferentiatie verbeterd kan worden. Deze bevindingen brengen therapeutische opties om de darmfunctie te verbeteren dichterbij.
