SAMENVATTING

Werken in onregelmatige diensten en dan in het bijzonder wanneer daarbij regelmatig sprake is van nachtdiensten brengt diverse gezondheidsrisico’s met zich mee. De risicopopulatie is groot en neemt door de ontwikkeling naar een 24-uurseconomie toe. De bedrijfsarts zal dan ook regelmatig te maken kunnen krijgen met beantwoording van vragen over causale relaties tussen ziektebeelden en ploegendienst en mogelijke gevolgen van het beloop van een aantal aandoeningen wanneer men in ploegendienst gaat werken. Van belang is ook om te weten wie een verhoogde kans loopt om verschijnselen te ontwikkelen die duiden op ploegendienstintolerantie. Welke adviezen kan de bedrijfsarts geven aan het bedrijf en de ploegendienstwerker om de gezondheidsrisico’s te beperken? In kort bestek worden de inzichten vanuit de literatuur over deze thema’s toegelicht. De omvang van de literatuur en het maatschappelijk belang van het onderwerp maken het noodzakelijk dat prioriteit wordt gegeven aan de ontwikkeling van een richtlijn voor de bedrijfsarts voor zijn handelen en adviezen aan ploegendienst( werkers) en bedrijven.
