Samenvatting

Beademingsvormen onderscheiden zich van elkaar door verschillen in adempatroon, de wijze waarop een inspiratie wordt gestart of gestopt, hoe het gasmengsel wordt toegediend en of aanvullende algoritmes aanwezig zijn om op een voorgeprogrammeerde manier te reageren op specifieke omstandigheden. Volumegecontroleerde beademing is een klassieke beademingsvorm die niet veel meer wordt gebruikt op intensivecareafdelingen in Europa, maar nog wel in de rest van de wereld. In Europa wordt vooral gebruikgemaakt van drukgecontroleerde beademing of moderne varianten daarop. Ondersteunende beademingsvormen als Pressure Support worden zeer veel gebruikt bij patiënten bij wie kracht en/of gaswisseling tekortschieten, maar wel voldoende ademdrive aanwezig is. Recente ontwikkelingen betreffen beademingsvormen met triggering op basis van diafragma-activiteit en (deels) zelfsturende beademingsvormen. Aan de hand van de systematische classificatie volgens Chatburn kunnen beademingsvormen in detail beschreven worden, hetgeen vergelijking van beademingsvormen van verschillende fabrikanten beter mogelijk maakt.
