2. Beademing en respiratoire insufficiëntie op de PACU

Samenvatting

Dit hoofdstuk gaat over de kortdurende beademing van volwassen patiënten die postoperatief op de PACU zijn opgenomen. Ook is er aandacht voor de voorbereiding op een (moeilijke) extubatie en voor patiënten met oxygenatie- of ventilatieproblemen. Beademing is potentieel schadelijk en er dienen duidelijke redenen zijn om beademing postoperatief voort te zetten. Extubatie is een veilige procedure mits goed voorbereid. Er kunnen veel oorzaken zijn voor respiratoire insufficiëntie op de PACU. Laagdrempelig overleg met operateur, andere specialismen en de intensive care zijn essentieel voor een optimale behandeling van de patiënt. Beademing, extubatie en de beoordeling van de respiratoir insufficiënte patiënt op de PACU vinden plaats onder verantwoordelijkheid van de anesthesioloog.
