Echoscopie als beeldvormende diagnostische techniek wordt breed toegepast in de geneeskunde. Een belangrijke reden voor de diagnostische toepassing in de gynaecologie en verloskunde is de veronderstelde veiligheid in vergelijking met andere beeldvormende technieken.
