In Media and the Sexualization of Childhood, Barrie Gunter analyzes the effect of sexualized media messages targeted at children. Gunter acknowledges the difficulty in measuring the effect of a form of media on the sexualization of children, because of the multitude of influences simultaneously affecting children. To resolve this issue, Gunter consulted many closely related studies and reconciled the results of those studies to hypothesize about the impact of sexualized media on children. It is common-knowledge that media is sexualized, but what effect does this actually have on children? …
