Van 2016 tot 2035 sterven nog ruim 9000 mensen aan mesothelioom

Samenvatting

Voor de periode 2019-2035 worden nog ongeveer 8000 sterfgevallen door mesothelioom bij mannen verwacht en ten minste hetzelfde aantal door asbestgerelateerde longkanker. Stumphius voorzag een groot volksgezondheidsprobleem door asbest, maar dat de gezondheids-schade door asbest zo’n grote omvang zou krijgen werd 50 jaar geleden niet verwacht. In dit artikel presenteren we een overzicht van asbestgerelateerde aandoeningen met cijfermateriaal en trends.
