A Wild Ride Up the Cupboards, Ann Bauer’s debut novel, follows the plight of Rachel, an impoverished Minnesota writer, whose oldest son suffers from a severe developmental disorder akin to autism. Rachel and her husband Jack struggle to save their son Edward from further decline, even as they attempt to support two other children, and each other, through financial and emotional hardship.
