Samenvatting

Allergische rinitis is van alle allergische aandoeningen op de kinderleeftijd de meest prevalente. De prevalentie van geboorte tot 4 jaar zou 4% bedragen. Volgens de internationale ISAAC-studie varieert de prevalentie van allergische rinitis bij 6-7-jarigen van 0,8% tot 14,9%, terwijl bij 13-14-jarigen de prevalentie tussen de 1,4% en 39,7% zou bewegen. De grote variatie tussen landen is voor een belangrijk gedeelte te wijten aan verschillen in omgevingsfactoren. Het algemene patroon is dat allergische rinitis voornamelijk voorkomt tussen de 5 en 45 jaar, met een piek tussen 15 en 24 jaar.
