The book Sex Segregation in Sports: Why Separate Is Not Equal by Adrienne N. Milner and Jomills Henry Braddock II discusses discrimination against women in the sports industry. They argue that even though Title IX gave women many opportunities to participate in sports, these opportunities have not been fully recognized because dominant sex ideologies have been so influential on a woman’s ability to play or work in sports. The authors compare segregation through Title IX and Brown v. Board of Education, as both sought to combat discrimination and segregation. They use research to support their claims that women can and should be integrated into sports as the segregation only continues a male dominant ideology. Integration would benefit men and women. The purpose of this book is to help people recognize that Title IX needs changes if the law is to give women true opportunity. Overall this book focuses on stating the facts and using research and real life anecdotes. It looks at an implicit social issue and devises a plan. …
