Examining the impact of early intervention in the context of maternal depression is important given the marked (and almost certainly underestimated) prevalence of depression in mothers of young children and the associated adverse effects on parental functioning (Bauman et al., 2020). If untreated, depression can amplify risk for psychological and functional impairment in mothers, and concomitant psychosocial impairments in their children (Slomian et al., 2019). From a preventive perspective, mitigating these effects early in development is imperative for optimizing mothers’ functioning and children’s development. …
