Samenvatting

Rotatorcuffrupturen komen veel voor bij oudere personen.1 Vaak ontstaan ze spontaan, zonder begeleidend trauma, en lang niet altijd geven dergelijke rotatorcuffrupturen aanleiding tot klachten. Deze spontane rupturen gaan altijd samen met veranderingen in de structuur van het peesweefsel. Deze degeneratieve veranderingen worden ook wel tendinose genoemd. Er zijn vele factoren die degeneratie van peesweefsel veroorzaken en de sterkte van rotatorcuffpezen ondermijnen.
