17. Acceptatie van de gebitsprothese en rol van psychologische screening

Samenvatting

De patiënttevredenheid over een prothese hangt van veel meer factoren af dan alleen de prothese. Zo is het psychologisch functioneren van de patiënt van invloed op het acceptatieproces. Vaak speelt een beperkte intermaxillaire ruimte ook een grote rol in het ontstaan van klachten. In beide gevallen moet de indicatie voor implantologie nauwkeurig bekeken worden. Bij vele casussen ligt de oplossing voor de problematiek niet in die hoek. Een acceptatieprocedure met een basisplaat kan zinvol zijn in de diagnostiek of helpen bij een gewenningsproces. Duidelijkheid over de rol van psychische problematiek zou veel onnodige en niet-succesvolle behandelingen kunnen voorkomen. Een psychologische screening van de patiënt zou verrijkend kunnen zijn voor de diagnostiek en behandeling.
