2. Aandachtsregulatie, executieve regelfuncties en zelfregulatie

Samenvatting

Binnen de fysiotherapie is weinig aandacht voor aandacht. Dat is jammer omdat goede aandachtvaardigheden van de patiënt een voorwaarde zijn voor zelfregulatie. En adequate zelfregulatie is weer een voorwaarde voor zelfmanagement van gezondheidsproblemen. Voor zelfmanagement is niet alleen aandacht nodig, maar ook ‘denken’, in de vorm van complexe cognitieve functies zoals analyseren en plannen. Mindfulnesstraining blijkt op basaal niveau zowel de aandachtfuncties als de cognitieve functies van de patiënt te verbeteren. Aandacht zelf is een meervoudig proces van richten, afdwalen herkennen en her-richten. Verschillende hersennetwerken spelen hierbij een rol. De kracht en wendbaarheid van de aandachtfunctie is bij patiënten met chronische pijn vaak afgenomen. De fysiotherapeut kan door het inzetten van gerichte lichamelijke aandachtsopdrachten de aandacht van de patiënt weer ‘fit’ proberen te krijgen.
