8 Postadolescente parodontitis

Samenvatting

In het verleden zijn voor ernstige gegeneraliseerde parodontitis bij mensen in de leeftijd van 21-35 jaar vele namen gebruikt, onder andere gegeneraliseerde juveniele parodontitis (GJP), postjuveniele parodontitis (PJP), snel progressieve parodontitis (rapidly progressive periodontitis, RPP) en gegeneraliseerde vroeg optredende parodontitis (early onset periodontitis, EOP). Daarnaast wordt onderscheid gemaakt tussen gelokaliseerde en gegeneraliseerde vormen. De diagnostiek is des te verwarrender, omdat de term RPP vaak wordt gebruikt voor een gegeneraliseerde agressieve vorm van parodontitis die jongvolwassenen treft als ze eind twintig of begin dertig zijn (Page e.a., 1983).
