8 Het ontwerpen van conventionele frameprothesen

Samenvatting

● De verantwoordelijkheid voor het ontwerp van een frameprothese en het treffen van voorbereidingen daarvoor ligt primair bij de mondzorgverlener. Uitgangspunten voor het ontwerp zijn dat de frameprothese de natuurlijke mondreiniging en de mondverzorging zo weinig mogelijk belemmert en een stabiele positie en optimale retentie biedt. Het ontwerpen van frameprothesen geschiedt in een aantal fasen waarvan de volgorde niet strikt chronologisch, maar soms circulair verloopt als moet worden teruggegaan naar een voorgaande fase. Deze fasen zijn: bestuderen van studiemodellen, beoordelen van (diagnostische) proefopstellingen, selecteren van pijlerelementen, surveyen, bepalen van een major connector, bepalen van typen minor connectors en ankers, bepalen van prothese-elementen, modificeren van theoretisch ideaal naar praktisch optimaal ontwerp en prepareren van de pijlerelementen op het studiemodel. De preparaties in het werkmodel geven samen met de omschrijving van het ontwerp de tandtechnicus de benodigde informatie voor de vervaardiging van de frameprothese.
