Samenvatting

Het Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) werkt samen met artsen, specialisten en officiële instanties wereldwijd om de ziekte COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ofwel Chronisch Obstructief Longlijden) onder de aandacht te brengen en om de preventie en behandeling van deze ziekte te verbeteren. Het GOLD-initiatief geeft richtlijnen uit voor de diagnose, behandeling en preventie van COPD. Gold heeft een classificatie opgesteld van de verschillende stadia van COPD en de bijbehorende verschijnselen (zie tabel 8.1).
