Samenvatting

Naast de klassieke vormen van kwantitatief en kwalitatief onderzoek bestaan er ook mengvormen, waarin beide methoden kunnen worden gebruikt onder de vlag van een verzamelbegrip dat een richting aanduidt. Dit wordt gedaan in situaties waarin sprake is van een groot aantal variabelen tegelijkertijd rondom het ontstaan en zich ontwikkelen van een complex verschijnsel of fenomeen. Dit heet ook wel intensief onderzoek.

Dit hoofdstuk bespreekt achtereenvolgens actieonderzoek, het Delphi-onderzoek, de casestudy, evaluatieonderzoek en implementatieonderzoek. Het betreft hier steeds vormen van wetenschappelijk praktijkonderzoek, waarbij de doelstelling bepaalt welke wetenschappelijke onderzoeksmethoden voor dat doel in aanmerking komen. Bij evaluatieonderzoek gaat dit hoofdstuk vooral in op de responsieve analyse. Bij implementatieonderzoek wordt duidelijk waarom dat geen evaluatieonderzoek is (want dat richt zich op outcome en procesverloop), maar onderzoek dat een theoretische verklaring zoekt voor het feit dat bestaande kennis maar zo moeizaam wordt omgezet naar de praktijk van alledag.
