Samenvatting

Anafylaxie is een acute gegeneraliseerde allergische reactie, die potentieel levensbedreigend is. Het betreft meestal een IgE-gemedieerde reactie op een lichaamsvreemd eiwit. Een niet-IgE-gemedieerde reactie kan voorkomen, maar is zeer zeldzaam; dit wordt ook wel een anafylactoïde reactie genoemd. Voor beide reacties is adrenaline de juiste behandeling. Vlotte herkenning en adequate behandeling zijn essentieel wegens het veelal snelle beloop en potentieel irreversibel karakter van een anafylaxie.
