Samenvatting

Benigne paroxismale positieduizeligheid (BPPD) is een van de meest voorkomende oorzaken van acute draaiduizeligheid. BPPD wordt gekenmerkt door aanvallen van draaiduizeligheid uitgelokt door veranderingen van de stand van het hoofd (zoals draaien in bed, vooroverbuigen, omhoog kijken). De duizeligheid duurt enkele seconden tot enkele minuten. Bij herhalen van de beweging die de duizeligheid uitlokt, vermindert de duizeligheidsreactie. Bij het merendeel van de patiënten gaan de klachten binnen vier weken vanzelf over.1
