Overtraindheid in de sport: stand van zaken en mogelijkheden voor preventie

Samenvatting

Overtraindheid is een veelvuldig besproken en gevreesd fenomeen in de sportwereld waar ook fysiotherapeuten steeds vaker mee worden geconfronteerd. Het eerste deel van het hoofdstuk beschrijft de meest recente wetenschappelijke inzichten ten aanzien van definiëring, prevalentie, diagnose, behandeling en vroegtijdige markers van overtraindheid. Geconstateerd wordt dat, ondanks enige vorderingen, overtraindheid een nog steeds grotendeels onbegrepen fenomeen is. Dit benadrukt het belang van preventie. In het tweede deel van dit hoofdstuk worden mogelijkheden besproken om door het bijhouden van belasting, herstel en prestatie overtraindheid te voorkomen.
