Samenvatting

Knieklachten betreffen veelal een combinatie van klachten waarbij de pijn op de voorgrond staat. Om te komen tot een goede diagnose is voldoende basiskennis van de anatomie en de pathofysiologie van wezenlijk belang. Een zorgvuldige anamnese is de basis van een correcte diagnose: welke klachten heeft de patiënt precies, wat is er gebeurd, was er sprake van een knievoorgeschiedenis? Gericht onderzoek daarna helpt om tot de diagnose te komen.
In eerste instantie komt de arts vaak niet verder dan een beschrijvende diagnose. Bij traumatische letsels van de knie is het mogelijk om in 95% van de gevallen door middel van een zorgvuldige anamnese en lichamelijk onderzoek tot een correcte diagnose te komen,28 waarbij ernstige intra-articulaire beschadigingen moeten worden uitgesloten. Indien niet direct een diagnose kan worden gesteld, zal het verloop van de klachten en symptomen in de tijd mogelijk alsnog tot een definitieve diagnose leiden.
