Samenvatting

Seksualiteit en voortplanting lijken steeds verder ontkoppeld te raken. Het beschikbaar komen van betrouwbare anticonceptie speelt hierbij een belangrijke rol. Dat betekent nog niet dat voortplantingsgerelateerde factoren, zoals interseksuele attractie en intraseksuele concurrentie of het ontwikkelen van seksuele aversie jegens gezinsverwanten, geen invloed meer hebben op ons seksuele leven. Ons hele seksuele systeem is ontwikkeld in nauwe samenhang met voortplantingsgerichte activiteiten. In dit hoofdstuk worden tot in detail de seksuele anatomie en de fysiologie van de seksuele functies besproken, met daarbij nadrukkelijk de kanttekening dat, hoewel slechts zijdelings besproken, in het contact met de patiënt aandacht voor het sociale kader waarbinnen seksueel gedrag plaatsvindt, niet mag ontbreken.
