Hardlopen en blessures

Samenvatting

Hardlopen is een populaire sport. Het aantal mensen dat aan hardlopen doet neemt nog steeds toe. De groei van het aantal hardlopers heeft ook een keerzijde: meer blessures. Het merendeel van de hardloopblessures ontstaat als gevolg van overbelasting en doet zich voor aan de knie. De incidentie van hardloopblessures is hoog en varieert tussen 2,5 en 38 per 1000 uren hardlopen. De hoogte van de incidentie is afhankelijk van de populatie hardlopers, de definitie van ‘blessure’ en de duur van het onderzoek. Er is veel onderzoek gedaan naar risicofactoren voor hardloopblessures, maar er is nog een gebrek aan overeenstemming tussen de resultaten. Meer dan de helft van de blessures ontstaat door fouten in de trainingsbelasting, waarbij te snel te veel lopen wordt gezien als de belangrijkste oorzaak van het ontstaan van een blessure. Een eerder doorgemaakte hardloopblessure en wedstrijdgericht hardlopen lijken risicofactoren te zijn voor het ontstaan van een blessure. Er is geen bewijs dat factoren zoals schoeisel, rekken en ondergrond, geslacht, leeftijd BMI, statiekafwijkingen van de voet en anatomische variabelen een oorzakelijk verband hebben met het ontstaan van een blessure.
