De meest voorkomende fractuur in de carpus van de hand is die van het os scaphoideum.

In dit hoofdstuk worden ook de termen ‘autograft’ (botent uit het eigen lichaam) en ‘allograft’ (botent verkregen uit een ander lichaam) gebruikt.

Een pseudartrose is een vals of onecht gewricht: het resultaat van een niet geconsolideerde botbreuk, zodat de botstukken ten opzichte van elkaar beweeglijk blijven.
