24 Analyse van lichaamsvochten in relatie tot parodontitis

Samenvatting

Al sinds mensenheugenis zijn pogingen ondernomen om ziekteprocessen op te sporen in lichaamsvloeistoffen. Bloed en urine zijn hiervan aansprekende voorbeelden. De analyse van speeksel in relatie tot verschillende aandoeningen is daarentegen nog van tamelijk recente datum. In 1990 schreef Mandel over de veranderingen in speeksel door systemische ziekten, de bijdrage van speeksel aan de diagnose van klinische problemen, hormonale bepalingen en de bepaling van farmaca en hun metabole producten (Mandel, 1990).
