22 Parodontale ontstekingen: weefselafbraak

Samenvatting

Al geruime tijd is bekend dat een aantal systeemziekten (diabetes, immunosuppressie, enz.) en/of sociale gewoontes (o.a. roken, stress en alcohol) de evolutie en behandeling van parodontitis kunnen beïnvloeden. Het laatste decennium toonden tal van onderzoeken echter met enige zekerheid aan dat ook parodontale infecties een negatieve invloed kunnen hebben op de algemene gezondheid van de patiënt (in het bijzonder cardiovasculaire problemen, diabetes, reumatoïde artritis, vroeggeboorte; Kinane & Bouchard, 2008).
