Samenvatting

Chronische ziekten en infecties vormen een belangrijke oorzaak van maternale en foetale morbiditeit en mortaliteit. Een goede voorbereiding op de interactie tussen de zwangerschap en het onderliggend lijden kan dit mogelijk verbeteren. Preconceptionele advisering, multidisciplinaire behandeling en het treffen van goede voorzorgsmaatregelen in het geval van complicaties maken hier een belangrijk onderdeel van uit. Kennis van de fysiologische veranderingen die optreden tijdens de zwangerschap, is hiervoor onontbeerlijk.
Infecties vormen tijdens de zwangerschap een reëel gevaar voor de gezondheid van moeder en kind. Preventie en zo mogelijk tijdige behandeling is obligaat.
