Samenvatting

Het parodontium met zijn verschillende componenten is optimaal ontworpen voor een efficiënte opvang en verdeling van de kauwkrachten. Zijn adaptatievermogen waarborgt deze functie vanaf de kinderleeftijd tot hoge ouderdom. Optimale steun van de dentitie vereist een fysiologische interactie tussen vooral de gingiva (met de transseptale vezels), het alveolaire bot en het parodontale ligament.
