Samenvatting

Achillespeesrupturen werden al in de klassieke oudheid beschreven door Hippocrates. Deze rupturen treden gewoonlijk op in een gebied van twee tot zes centimeter boven de calcaneus, een relatief slecht gevasculariseerd deel van de pees. Het wordt gezien onder alle leeftijdsgroepen ouder dan twintig jaar.
