17 Beweegprogramma’s voor fragiele ouderen: een systematisch literatuuronderzoek

Samenvatting

Uit tal van onderzoekingen komt naar voren dat regelmatige lichaamsbeweging tot op hoge leeftijd leidt tot een betere lichamelijke conditie. Ouderen kunnen dan de dagelijkse activiteiten (zoals aankleden, wassen en lopen) langer zelfstandig blijven uitvoeren. Het blijkt echter dat slechts 20 procent van alle ouderen regelmatig lichamelijk actief is. Als gevolg van lichamelijke beperkingen zijn met name fragiele of kwetsbare ouderen vaak weinig actief. Deze kwetsbare, inactieve groep zou daarom veel baat bij regelmatige lichaamsbeweging kunnen hebben. Minder fitte en minder gezonde ouderen zijn echter moeilijk te onderzoeken omdat ze moeilijk te bereiken zijn, de kans op uitval groot is en ze moeilijk belastbaar zijn. De samenstelling van trainingsprogramma’s vraagt daarom extra aandacht, ze dienen aan de specifieke behoeften en capaciteiten van deze kwetsbare doelgroep te worden aangepast. Dit hoofdstuk geeft een overzicht van beweegprogramma’s die effectief zijn gebleken voor het verbeteren van het lichamelijk functioneren van fragiele ouderen.
