15 Tanderosie bij kinderen

Samenvatting

Vanaf het moment van doorbraak worden de gebitselementen omspoeld met mondvloeistof, meestal speeksel genoemd. Deze mondvloeistof bestaat bij heel jonge kinderen voor het grootste deel uit klierspeeksel afkomstig uit de glandulae parotideae en in mindere mate uit de glandulae submandibulares en de glandulae sublinguales en de minor speekselklieren (Van Nieuw Amerongen, 2008). Het is dan ook te begrijpen dat baby’s en peuters, door hun waterig dunne, sereus speeksel gemakkelijk kunnen kwijlen, vooral als hun slikpatroon nog niet goed ontwikkeld is. Bij kinderen vanaf de leeftijd vijf tot zes jaar is de secretie van de glandulae parotideae afgenomen tot een stabiel niveau. Gezonde kinderen van die leeftijd kwijlen dan niet meer.
