Samenvatting

  • Pijn brengt ons ertoe om (verdere) lichamelijke beschadiging te voorkomen en maatregelen te treffen om de beschadigde weefsels te laten herstellen.
  • Het biopsychosociale model omvat een biologische, een psychische en een sociale dimensie en biedt een betere verklaring van pijn dan het medische model.
  • Pijn kan worden ingedeeld naar beloop en naar componenten.
  • Neurologisch onderzoek geeft steeds meer inzicht in de psychologische mechanismen van pijn.
  • Psychische factoren van pijn kunnen onderverdeeld worden in predisponerende, uitlokkende en onderhoudende factoren.
  • Bij de behandeling van pijn zijn psychologische en cognitieve en gedragsinterventies mogelijk.

Zo is er door de afdeling Medische Psychologie en Psychotherapie van het Erasmus MC Rotterdam een voorlichtings-dvd gemaakt die ouders adviseert over het omgaan met de pijn van hun jonge kind.
