14 Cervixcarcinoom

Samenvatting

De cervix uteri (baarmoederhals) is het onderste deel van de uterus dat in de vagina uitmondt (baarmoedermond). Cervixcarcinoom is een maligne afwijking van het oppervlakteweefsel die ontstaat op de grens van endo- en ectocervix. De ontwikkelingsgang van cervixcarcinoom is eigenlijk niet goed bekend. Aan het ontstaan van een cervixcarcinoom gaat een lang voorstadium van tien tot vijftien jaar vooraf, waarbij sprake is van cellulaire dysplasieën, geclassificeerd door middel van de KOPAC-B-systematiek (zie verderop). Niet alle cervixdysplasieën leiden uiteindelijk tot cervixcarcinoom, er zijn ook cervicale dysplasieën die vanzelf overgaan. Er zijn twee typen cervixcarcinomen: het plaveiselcelcarcinoom (deze komt het meeste voor, 85-90%) en het adenocarcinoom (10-15%).
