1 Partiële gebitsprothese; functies en typen

Samenvatting

● Een partiële gebitsprothese kan vier gebitsfuncties herstellen of verbeteren: de esthetiek, de stabiliteit van de mandibula, de kauwfunctie en de spraakfunctie. Voor het orale draagcomfort is het ook van belang dat het dragen van een partiële gebitsprothese niet storend is. Er bestaan drie typen partiële gebitsprothesen: de partiële kunststof plaatprothese, de frameprothese en de frameprothese met (semi)precisieverankering. Hiermee kunnen een tandboogonderbreking, een tandboogverkorting en een combinatie van een tandboogonderbreking en een -verkorting worden gerestaureerd. Veelgenoemde nadelen van partiële gebitsprothesen zijn de moeilijke mondverzorging, de slechte invloed op de restdentitie en het beperkte orale draagcomfort. Door de huidige geavanceerde mogelijkheden met al dan niet vrij-eindigende bruggen op natuurlijke gebitselementen of implantaten of op combinaties daarvan staat de indicatie van partiële gebitsprothesen onder druk. Toch lijkt de vraag naar partiële gebitsprothesen ook op termijn te blijven bestaan.
