1 Bouw en functie van het parodontium

Samenvatting

Het parodontium omvat alle weefsels die rondom (Gr.:peri) of naast (Gr.: para) de tand (Gr.:odous) zijn gelokaliseerd. Hiertoe behoren de gingiva, de alveolaire mucosa, het parodontale ligament, het alveolaire bot en het wortelcement. De twee laatstgenoemde weefsels zijn gemineraliseerd.

Mucosa of slijmvlies is het weefsel dat onze lichaamsholten bekleedt en afgrenst van de buitenwereld. De mucosa is gewoonlijk van endodermale origine en is bedekt met een laagje epitheel. Op verschillende plaatsen is de mucosa continu met de huid verbonden (bijvoorbeeld bij de neusgaten, de lippen, de anus en de genitale zone).
