1 Behavioural medicine - geneeskunde en psychologie: een introductie

Samenvatting

Het behandelen van lichamelijk zieke mensen in een behavioural medicine-kader leidt tot goede resultaten. Systematische reviews, meta-analysen, Cochrane Reviews en de hoofdstukken in dit boek onderbouwen deze uitspraak. In vrijwel elk algemeen ziekenhuis in Nederland functioneert een afdeling medische psychologie, vele huisartsen werken – al dan niet in een gezondheidscentrum – met psychologen samen en revalidatiecentra en andere derdelijnsinstellingen hebben psychologen in de behandelstaf. Aan vele universitaire medische centra is een afdeling medische psychologie verbonden, waar men zich toelegt op het behandelen van patiënten, het geven van onderwijs over behavioural medicine aan studenten geneeskunde en het doen van onderzoek op dit veld. Er zijn nationale en internationale organisaties actief op het domein van de behavioural medicine; zij publiceren in (inter)nationale tijdschriften, maken boeken en houden congressen. Kortom: de behavioural medicine is ‘alive and kicking’.
