In de laatste dertig jaar hebben zich belangrijke ontwikkelingen voorgedaan in het denken over seksueel geweld en in onderzoek en hulpverlening op dit gebied.

In 2008 is het Partnership Aanpak Seksueel Geweld opgericht, waarin de expertisecentra Rutgers Nisso Groep, Movisie en de Stichting ambulante FIOM samen met verschillende veldpartijen de krachten bundelen om preventie en hulpverlening te verbeteren. Daarbij zal zoveel mogelijk worden aangesloten bij bestaande initiatieven, zoals de Advies- en Steunpunten Huiselijk Geweld en de Sense-centra.
