‘Seat belt sign’ en stomp thoraxtrauma

Samenvatting

Het ‘seat belt sign’ is geassocieerd met een specifiek type letsel. Bij gebruik van de driepuntsautogordel wordt een relatief hoge frequentie van een bepaald type thoraxletsel waargenomen, zoals ribfracturen, sternumfracturen en claviculafracturen. Bij hoogenergetische traumata moet tevens rekening worden gehouden met de mogelijkheid van ernstig thoraxletsel, zoals massieve longlaceratie of een longcontusie. Longcontusie is een van de belangrijkste factoren die bijdraagt tot morbiditeit en mortaliteit, zowel na geïsoleerd stomp thoraxtrauma als bij multitrauma-patiënten. Klinische waakzaamheid is van belang.
