Met een neuropsychologisch onderzoek (NPO) kunnen cognitieve veranderingen die kenmerkend zijn voor dementie met een hoge mate van objectiviteit gedetecteerd en gekwantificeerd worden.
Informatie over het profiel van het cognitief functioneren kan een belangrijke bijdrage leveren aan de differentiële Diagnostiek van de verschillende vormen van dementie.
