Moeder worden op latere leeftijd en het risico op borstkanker

Samenvatting

Vrouwen hebben een hoger risico op borstkanker naarmate zij op latere leeftijd kinderen krijgen, minder kinderen krijgen en korter borstvoeding geven. Behalve dat Nederlandse vrouwen weinig kinderen krijgen en weinig borstvoeding geven, krijgen zij ook relatief laat hun eerste kind (29 jaar). In de afgelopen dertig jaar is de eerste zwangerschap vijf jaar naar achteren verschoven. Dit alleen verklaart al meer dan één op de negen diagnosen van borstkanker (15%) die zich in een groep van honderd vrouwen voor het 75ste jaar voordoet.
