Rioolwateranalyse als additionele indicator voor drugsgebruik in de algemene bevolking

Samenvatting

Rioolwateranalyse op excretieproducten van drugs is een veelbelovende techniek om drugsgebruik in de algemene bevolking in te schatten. De voordelen van rioolwateranalyses zijn dat ze objectief en snel uitvoerbaar zijn, wat het mogelijk maakt om de omvang en trends in drugsgebruik efficiënt in kaart te brengen De methodologie kan daarom beschouwd worden als complementair met socio-epidemiologisch onderzoek. Dit artikel geeft een overzicht van de resultaten van de methodologie, toegepast in België en in Europa. Rioolwateronderzoek kan additionele informatie over drugsgebruik opleveren dat gebruikt kan worden om het drugsbeleid efficiënter te maken.
