Suïcidedreiging bespreekbaar maken in gezinstherapie

Samenspel tussen de expertise van het cliëntsysteem enerzijds en de innerlijke dialoog en metacommunicatie van de therapeut anderzijds

Samenvatting

Suïcide en suïcidedreiging zijn voor elke psychotherapeut – beginneling of ervaren rot in het vak – thema’s die beklijven. In dit artikel bepleiten we dat spreken over suïcide constructiever verloopt wanneer het cliëntsysteem als expert benaderd wordt en de therapeut metacommunicatieve feedback gebruikt. De therapeut zal daarbij moeten afstemmen op zijn innerlijke dialoog en zijn interactionele barometer. Deze benadering wordt geïllustreerd met een klinische casus: we volgen een gezin vanaf het eerste contact op de psychiatrische spoedgevallendienst tot en met de afrondende gesprekken met de ouders één jaar na de effectieve suïcide van hun 18-jarige zoon. We belichten de meest prangende momenten in het therapeutische proces en de rol die daarin is weggelegd voor het cliëntsysteem en de therapeut.
