Emotieherkenning op de basisschool: evaluatie van ‘Wat zegt mijn gevoel’

Samenvatting

Er is weinig onderzoek gedaan naar materialen ter stimulering van emotieherkenning op basisscholen. In dit artikel wordt onderzoek besproken naar Wat zegt mijn gevoel: een spel met fotokaartjes van emotiegezichtsuitdrukkingen en situaties die emoties zouden kunnen opwekken. Met de Assessment of Children’s Emotion Skills werd bij kleuters, kinderen uit groep vijf en uit groep acht het effect op emotieherkenning nagegaan (n = 245). Voor de kinderen in groep acht werd tevens het effect op zelfgerapporteerde emotiedifferentiatie en aandacht voor emoties van anderen (subschalen uit de Emotion Awareness Questionnaire) nagegaan. De interventiegroep speelde vier weken met Wat zegt mijn gevoel en werd bij een voor- en nameting vergeleken met een controlegroep. In groep acht leken jongens in de controlegroep minder aandacht voor emoties van anderen te rapporteren bij de nameting dan in de interventiegroep. Er werden geen effecten gevonden op door de jongeren zelf gerapporteerde emotiedifferentiatie. De emotieherkenning in de interventiegroep nam toe ten opzichte van de controlegroep, vooral bij kinderen in groep vijf. Op basis van de resultaten kan geconcludeerd worden dat Wat zegt mijn gevoel positief werkt op emotieherkenning en het beste ingezet lijkt te kunnen worden in groep vijf.
