8 Kinderen met chronische complexe medische condities

Samenvatting

Het aantal kinderen met een chronische complexe medische conditie (CCMC) is vrij stabiel de afgelopen jaren. Ten gevolge van vroegtijdige diagnose en meer effectieve medische hulp overleeft een groter aantal van deze ernstig zieke kinderen. Zo is het op dit ogenblik duidelijk dat bij kinderen met acute lymfatische leukemie of cystische fibrose (mucoviscidose) een spectaculaire stijging van de levensverwachting is opgetreden. Door dit alles is de behoefte aan gespecialiseerde tandheelkundige behandeling van kinderen met ernstige ziekten toegenomen. Hiervoor is basiskennis van de ziekte noodzakelijk alsook kennis betreffende de orale complicaties die behoren tot de symptomatologie van de verschillende ziekten.
