11 Autorijden na een beroerte

Samenvatting

Het rijbewijs is voor vele patiënten met een cerebrovasculair accident heilig. Het geeft hen de nodige vrijheid en zelfstandigheid om mobiel te blijven. Ten gevolge van de visuele, motorische en cognitieve beperkingen, mag slechts een aantal van hen na de beroerte wettelijk met de wagen blijven rijden. In dit hoofdstuk wordt de procedure uitgelegd en een voorstel gelanceerd tot een meer efficiënte verwijzing naar een officieel evaluatiecentrum. Verder worden de verschillende behandelingsstrategieën van rijvaardigheid na een beroerte besproken. Een eerste strategie richt zich op de training van cognitieve componenten van rijvaardigheid. Een tweede strategie traint rijvaardigheid in een contextuele omgeving met behulp van een autosimulator. De efficiëntie van beide strategieën wordt vergeleken aan de hand van een gerandomiseerde klinische studie. Uit deze studie blijkt dat 73% van kandidaten die autosimulatie therapie volgden slaagden op een officiële evaluatie, wat significant hoger was dan het slaagpercentage van 42% uit de cognitieve-trainingsgroep. Ondanks de bemoedigende resultaten van dit onderzoek, is een uitbreiding van autosimulatietraining naar andere revalidatiecentra voorlopig nog niet in zicht.
