21 Het acute myocardinfarct met ST-elevatie op het ECG

Samenvatting

Ongeveer een derde van de totale jaarlijkse sterfte in Nederland en België betreft sterfte als gevolg van hart- en vaatziekten. Van deze sterfte is weer een derde het gevolg van ischemische hartziekten en hiervan is het acute hartinfarct weer bij ongeveer twee derde de oorzaak. Er is een jarenlange trend van een daling in de sterfte door hart- en vaatziekten. Tegelijkertijd is er echter een toename van het aantal ziekenhuisopnamen in verband met ischemische hartziekten en het ligt in de verwachting dat door de vergrijzing en door betere behandelingsmogelijkheden de overleving langer zal zijn. Als gevolg daarvan zal het aantal patiënten met chronische ischemische hartziekten en hartfalen toenemen en zal er een verdere toename van de zorgvraag zijn. Het aantal patiënten met een ST-elevatie-myocardinfarct (STEMI) in Nederland en België is niet exact bekend, mede doordat een aanzienlijk deel van de patiënten bij wie een myocardinfarct ontstaat, plotseling overlijdt voordat medische hulp kan worden geboden en andere patiënten geen medische hulp zoeken.
