Samenvatting

In Nederland en België wordt de chirurgie van het hart en de grote thoracale vaten verricht door de cardiothoracaal chirurg. Door de snelle medisch-technologische ontwikkelingen is de chirurgische behandeling van aangeboren en verworven hartziekten in onze landen goed toegankelijk voor de patiënten. De meest voorkomende operaties bij aangeboren afwijkingen van hart en grote vaten worden beschreven in hoofdstuk 44.
